Reverend Joyce Pulley-Hinton
Loving Word Missionary Baptist Church
Raleigh, NC 27610
Reverend Hinton is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina. She is the 8th of 13 children born to the late Mr. Odell Pulley, Sr. and Mrs. Lila Gill Pulley. She has been involved in Christian ministry for more than 30 years. Initially, she ministered through singing and teaching the Gospel. She accepted God's call to preach the Gospel in 1993 and was ordained in 1998. Rev. Hinton made history on both occasions, in HER HOME CHURCH, becoming the first woman to be licensed and ordained in the one hundred and eight-year history of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Raleigh, North Carolina.
Rev. Hinton is a 1999 honor graduate of Shaw University Divinity School, Raleigh, North Carolina.
After serving as Associate Minister for eight years at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, under the Leadership of Reverend P. R. Jones, the Lord led Rev. Hinton to launch out into the deep. She is the founding visionary pastor of Loving Word Missionary Baptist Church of Raleigh, North Carolina, which opened its doors February 3, 2002, declaring “It’s All about Jesus.” Jesus said in John 10:10…”I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Rev. Hinton spent most of her professional career in service to the State of North Carolina and retired from the position of HUD Community Development Block Grant Specialist with the State Department of Commerce in January 2000, with 31 years of dedicated service.
She has served on the Board of Directors of Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network, which provides assistance to Homeless Families. She was honored as an Outstanding African American Woman in the Ministry in the year 2002 and is included in the “Women in Ministry” display of the African American Cultural Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina. God has blessed Rev. Hinton to preach throughout North Carolina and in Washington, DC at the historic Nineteenth Street Baptist Church.
Rev. Hinton and Loving Word Baptist Church made history on August 21, 2004 when the Church received membership into the Wake Missionary Baptist Association (WMBA) becoming the first church in the Association under the leadership of a woman pastor. Rev. Hinton is a former member of the Executive Board of (WMBA) and currently serves on the Ordination Council. Rev. Hinton doesn’t think of herself as a trailblazer, but she added another “first” to her list on March 21, 2009 becoming the first woman to preach at the Mid-Year Session of the historic Wake Missionary Baptist Association. Also in 2009, Reverend Hinton became the first woman to preach revival in the one-hundred and forty-year history of Oak City Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
A little less than 10 years after joining WMBA, Pastor Pulley-Hinton is the first woman in the Wake Missionary Baptist Association to build a church from the ground up, Loving Word Missionary Baptist Church, dedicating the edifice in June 2014.
The most recent “first” for Pastor Pulley-Hinton occurred in August 2016 as she was named Fourth Vice Moderator of the WMBA, the first woman to hold a Moderator position in the association’s 100 plus year history.
She is happily married to Thurmon Hinton and they have two adult children: Angela and Michael, one grandson, Errick and a grand-daughter, Milena.
Rev. Hinton loves the Lord! Her greatest desire is that she please God and that He be glorified in whatever she does. Her favorite scriptures is Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
